New York State Testing

We follow the Diocesan Schedule of New York State testing:

 

• Grades 4, 6, and 7 - ELA and Math

• Grades 5 and 8 - Science exam

Our approach to test preparation focuses on some key practices:

 

• We support learning instead of a year-long movement of test preparation, which we feel increases the engagement and passion of the subject being taught

• We incorporate iReady, an effective tool which integrates regularly assessed concepts and topics with testing languages and phrases from the exams

• We utilize NYS practice tests and previously released questions mid-way through the year

• We administer a shorter simulation exam in early February to model the setting and format of the upcoming test

Students respond very well to the methods being taught. Our process generally produces a 65-75% proficiency rate (levels 3 to 4) on all exams. This rate is nearly identical to the Diocesan performance rate which has traditionally exceeded public schools from NYC and throughout the state by nearly 15-20%.
