We use a vertically aligned curriculum to best develop skills and support the needs of all students.

English Language Arts (ELA)

For ELA, Grades K, 1, and 2 use Into Reading from HMH. This textbook aligns to the major, evidence-based K–6 literacy curriculum mandated in many NYC public schools under the "NYC Reads" initiative to improve literacy through structured, phonics-based instruction. It focuses on foundational skills, including phonemic awareness, fluency, and vocabulary, intended to ensure grade-level reading by second grade. This instruction is also supported by the intensive UFLI phonics program which is designed to push reading mastery in the early grades.

Grades 3, 4, and 5 utilize Junior Great Books, a program that uses high-quality literature and a student-centered "Shared Inquiry" method to improve reading comprehension, critical thinking, and writing skills. By participating in guided discussions and in-depth reading activities, students learn to support their ideas with evidence, explore multiple interpretations, and engage in respectful collaborative dialogue.

Grades 6, 7, and 8 use Literature by Savvas, which is a scientifically based research program with personalized learning experiences to improve reading fluency, comprehension, and writing, with an emphasis on building advanced prose and word work through Sadlier’s Vocabulary Workshop.

Math

Grades K through 6 use Go Math!, a comprehensive K–8 mathematics program developed by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. It is designed to help students master math through a balance of conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world application. The curriculum is fully aligned with modern college and career readiness standards, including the NYS Learning Standards and Common Core. Key features of the program include interactive learning, featuring a unique "write-in" student edition. This allows students to solve problems, record their thinking, and complete homework directly in their books, creating a permanent record of their progress. In order to boost engagement, each lesson begins with an "Essential Question" to focus student thinking. Features like "Math Talk" encourage students to verbalize their reasoning, which research shows leads to a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. The program is also built to support all learners, incorporating a built-in "Response to Intervention" (RTI) tiers, providing extra help for struggling students and enrichment challenges for those ready to move ahead.

Grades 7 and 8 use All Things Algebra, an intensive skill-based and concept program to help prepare students for the Regents Algebra 1 exam in 8th grade, focusing on clarity and consistency through the method of instruction. Each day’s lesson is accessible via GoogleClassroom where the students can replay or review parts of the lesson that may appear confusing. The materials are rigorous and aligned with state standards, yet they remain accessible for students who struggle with disorganized traditional textbooks. It effectively bridges the gap between high-level mathematical theory and practical, classroom-ready application.
